What if the plating range is wider than my tolerance?

Then there is no size you can machine that is in specification for every outcome, and the honest answer is that the job cannot be done as specified. Tighten the range with the plater, or open the tolerance with the customer.

Every ranged process takes its whole width out of the band upstream, because the part has to pass whichever value the process lands on. Stack enough of that, or use one process whose window is wider than the print tolerance, and the arithmetic returns a lower limit above the upper one.

That is not a rounding artifact and it is not the calculator failing. It is the correct answer to the question asked, and it is far cheaper to discover before the part is cut than at final inspection. Most tools would round it away or refuse to show it; this one reports it, and returns no limits at all, because a number handed over in that state will be held by somebody.
